The Starlight Ballroom at the Castaways has seen may class reunions and the gathering of City officials and guests from Ota, Japan was no different this past week. “Celebrating 30 years of Friendship” highlighted the evening. These guests definitely traveled the greatest distance.

Thirty years ago then Burbank Mayor Larry Stamper traveled to Ota, Japan as the first Mayor of this new Sister City Union, and again this past Thursday night Stamper recalled the trip as if it was just last week. He joked when he spoke of the day many years ago about the greeting of the officials from Ota, Japan, some of whom were in the room and laughed at Mayor Stampers comments.

Burbank residents who have hosted students from Ota, along with several students who have traveled to Ota over the 30 years, were present celebrating the reunion.

Mayor David Gordon made presentations to the Ota Delegation, as did Kyo Miyazaki, the head of the Ota delegation.

Former Mayors Talamantes, Emily Gabel-Luddy and Bob Bowne were all present to help recall the friendships and make the delegation feel like they did when they traveled to the Sister City.

The guests got to enjoy a slideshow looking back over the 30 years of the history that has been created along with plenty of scrapbooks recording the events.

Our chief photographer was on hand to record the 30 year friendships and here are the pictures from the special evening.
