Crack Down on Prostitution At Local Hotels/Motels
On January 25, officers conducting enforcement targeting narcotics, gang, and prostitution activity checked on websites advertising “escort services, and noticed several females advertising in the Burbank area. They went to the Extended Stay America hotel, locatged at 2200 Empire Ave., at 10:30 p.m. and were advised that one of the women advertising on the websites had a room at the hotel. When they went to the room the woman allowed the officers in, and admitted that she had been arrested numerous times for prostitution. The officers observed lingerie, opened and unopened condom wrappers, sex toys, and a bottle of Sex Tarts lubricant. On the woman’s phone were numerous messages asking for her rates. Based on the information obtained, the woman, Jasmen White, 18, of Tacoma, Washington, was arrested fo loitering with the intent to engage in prostitution.
Homeless Man Threatens To Kill CVS Manager
On January 24, at 6:45 p.m., a local homeless man, Anjan Ray, 48, who has a history of run-in with the police, was asked by the manager of the CVC Drug Store located at 1820 W. Verdugo Ave., to leave. Ray refused to leave, and allegedly began yelling and pushing the manager. When police officers arrived at the store, Ray threatened to kill the manager. He was placed under arrest for making criminal threats, battery, and outstanding warrants.
Smoking Violation Leads To Drug Arrest
On January 21, at 10 p.m., officers on bicycle patrol in the village area observed a woman smoking in the Palm Court area near Palm Ave. and San Fernando Blvd. Smoking there is a violation of the Burbank Municipal Code. When they contacted the woman, she agreed to be searched. During the search, the officers found five Vicodin pills in her bra. She admitted to not having a prescription for the pills, wich she said obtained from a friend. The woman, Juliette Ortiz, 18, of Sun Valley, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Pair Robbed Of Groceries On Way Home From Market
On Janaury 15, at 11:30 p.m., two friends were walking home after a trip to the grocery store. In the area of Lake St. and Elm Ave., two suspects began following them. One suspects asks them, “You got a problem?” Then the other suspect asked them how much money they had. When the two victims replied that they didn’t have any money, the suspect pushed one of them to the ground and grabbed his bag of groceries and said, “What you got in here?” At that point, a neighbor came out of their residence and saw what was going on, and called police. The robbers fled towards Alameda Ave. One is described as a male Hispanic, in his 20’s, with a shaved head, and wearing a white t-shirt. The second suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 18 years old, wearing a black baseball style hat.

Customer Skips Out On Check, Whacks Waiter With Skateboard
On January 21, at 1:15 p.m. two young men attempted to run out of the Frontier Wok restaurant located at 1311 N. Hollywood Way, without paying for their lunch. A waiter at the restaurant yelled at them about not paying their bill. One suspect, described as a male Hispanic 18-20 years old, ran out the door onto Hollywood Way and disappeared. The second suspect, John Douglas Benne, 18, of Burbank, was stopped by the waiter and two Charter Communications employees who were eating in the restaurant and came to the waiter’s aid. When the waiter grabbed the suspect’s arm to hold onto him, Benne reportedly turned and struck the waiter in the head with his skateboard. Benne then ran from the restaurant, fleeing northbound on Hollywood Way. Officers called to the scene located Benne in an alley near Chandler Blvd. and Avon St. He was positively identified as the man who struck the waiter.
Benne was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, and defrauding an innkeeper. His bail was set at $30,000. The waiter sustained abrasions and swelling to the left side of his head.
Hotel / Motel Illegal Activity Enforcement
Patrol officers have been conducting enforcement at local hotels and motels, specifically targeting narcotics, gangs, and prostitution activity. Officers have conducted investigations which have led to the following arrests:
On January 13, at 10:50 p.m. officers walking through the lobby of the Extended Stay America hotel at 2200 Empire Ave., smelled marijuana coming from the man in front of them. When contacted, the man admitted that he had marijuana in his jacket pocket. He consented to a search, and the officers found a room key, large amounts of currency, and a California ID card belonging to a female. The man stated that the ID card belonged to is girlfriend. When the officers went to the hotel room, they found the woman, and located used and unused condoms throughout the room, three cell phones, and a laptop computer. The woman admitted that the man was her boyfriend, and he had convinced her to engage in prostitution while he provided her with protection. The man, Derwin Petteway, 20, of Lemon Grove, was arrested for pimping. The woman, Dulce Martinez, 18, of Hemet, was arrested for loitering with the intent to commit prostitution.
On January 17, at 10:05 p.m., officers were walking through the Quality Inn, when they contacted two women whom they recognized from escort ads. The women admitted to the officers that they were prostitutes. They said they were in Burbank to meet clients. The two, Kuliah Craddock, 20, of Oxnard; and Kristen Fisher, 23, of Oakland, were arrested for loitering with the intent to commit prostitution.
Construction Workers Shot With BB Gun
On January 16, at 8:30 a.m. workers at a construction site at 2223 N. Catalina St., were digging to make the foundation of a large apartment complex. While digging, two of the workers were shot in the arms. Arriving officers found small round abrasions on the victims’ arms, indication they were shot with some type of BB gun. No suspects were located.
Resident Gets No Charge Out of Dumped Batteries
On January 15, at 10:30 p.m., a resident in the 800 block of N. Rose St. called police to report that someone had thrown batteries in his front yard. Apparently the batteries started showing up in the yard during the past six months. The frequency and number of batteries had been increasing, and they had been thrown further up in the yard closer to the house. A total of 226 AA and AAA batteries have been thrown in the victim’s yard. Police are looking for the perpetrator of this shocking crime, so they can charge him with illegal dumping of hazardous waste.
Shoplifter Takes Socks and Flees Into Mall Restroom
On January 13, at 1:55 p.m., a suspected shoplifter in the Ross store at 349 N. San Fernando Blvd., was observed by loss prevention officers putting a pair of socks in his waistband. When the man exited the store without paying for the socks, they contacted him outside the store. The man appeared to have a knife in his pocket and told them, “I’m not going back to jail!” He then ran towards Magnolia Blvd., and into the Town Center Mall. The loss prevention officers followed him to a third floor restroom. They waited outside until the suspect exited the restroom, and were able to place him in handcuffs until police officers arrived. The suspect, Noe Mendoza, 25, of Burbank, was placed under arrest for robbery.

McSex For McNuggets A McNoNo
On January 11, at 11:10 a.m., a customer at the McDonald’s at 1701 W. Olive Ave., called police to report that a woman asked him for McNuggets in exchange for sexual favors. The woman was reportedly opening the doors of customers’ cars as they waited in the drive thru line. She was asked to leave the premises, but she refused. Responding officers arrested Khadijah Baseer, 31, of Los Angeles, for loitering.
Arson Suspected in Fire at Muir Middle School
On January 11, at 2:36 a.m., officers responded to John Muir Middle School, located at 1111 N. Kenneth Rd., regarding a fire. They observed two small fires on top of a low concrete wall and across a chain link fence on the south side of the school. They were able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. Arson is suspected. No suspects were observed in the area.
Robbers Take Man’s Laptop Computer
On January 10, at 6 p.m., a man was walking to his car in the area of Magnolia Blvd. and Moss St., after just finishing his shift at work. Two men approached him from behind and tapped him on the back. When the man turned around one of the robbers grabbed his laptop case and began to pull it, jerking it away from him. Both suspects then fled on foot. They are described as either male Blacks or Hispanics, 5’8”- 4’10”, 120-140 lbs. Both were wearing dark clothing, and one had a dark skull cap.

Use A Potted Plant – Go To Jail
On January 3, at 12:40 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 300 block of E. Cornell Dr., regarding neighbors who got into a verbal argument about smoking violations. At some point one of the people involved in the argument threw a potted plant from the second floor balcony, nearly hitting the victim in the head. Maria Puerto, 53, of Burbank, was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon (the potted plant).
Carjacking Suspect Double Parks, Gets Arrested
On January 1, just before 9 a.m., a woman was vacuuming out her car at the car wash located at 520 S. Victory Blvd., when a man approached her and demanded her vehicle. The victim noticed that the suspect was holding something in his hand in his jacket pocket, which she believed was a gun. Fearing for her life, she gave the suspect her car keys. The man then drove away. Later police in Bell Gardens noticed the car double parked in the street near their patrol car. When a record check revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from Burbank, they reviewed the video from their in-car camera and watched the suspect park the car and walk away. A search of the area turned up the suspect a short distance away. Jorge Martinez, 23, of Atwater, was arrested for carjacking.
Car Burglar Caught in the Act
On January 2, at 9 p.m. a resident in the 300 block of Elm Ave. called police regarding a man trespassing in the backyard of his residence. Upon their arrival, officers observed a man with his legs handing out of the backseat of a the resident’s vehicle. When officers searched the man, the found a GPS unit. The resident stated, “That’s my GPS!” Joshua Hixenbaugh, 31, of Huntington Beach, was placed under arrest for burglary.
Firecracker In Trash Lands Man In Jail For Arson
On January 1, shortly after 2 a.m., uniformed officers on routine patrol in the area of Magnolia Blvd. and Rose St., heard a loud bang and observed a trash can on fire. They contacted three young men a short distance away regarding the fire. One of them admitted to throwing a lit firework into the trash can. Brett O’Donnell, 28, of Toluca Lake, was placed under arrest for arson.
