A pedestrian was struck and killed this afternoon, while crossing Empire Ave. near the Bob Hope Airport.
Burbank Police received the report of the accident at 3:50 p.m. The unidentified male victim was apparently crossing Empire Ave. near Avenue A, the entrance to the airport from Empire. The point of impact was near the end of the runway. Burbank Fire Department paramedics responded to the accident scene and administered life-saving treatment to the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim, a man in his mid-50′s, was not released pending notification of his next of kin.
The driver, who was in a rental car from Hertz, was questioned by officers at the scene and released. The 18 year-old driver from North Hollywood, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police. . The accident is under investigation. This was the second fatal traffic accident this week. On February 12, a motorcyclist was killed when he slammed into the back of a parked van on Alameda Ave. near Chavez St.
