Starting October 22nd the Burbank Public Works Department, working with the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), will begin construction work on a joint project to improve rail crossing safety at Buena Vista Street near Vanowen Street.
The completed project will include new traffic islands, a second left turn lane on Vanowen Street, an entirely new rail crossing gate protection system with four pedestrian protection gates, new rail control systems, and a new
rail communication system that will be installed by the rail contractor.
When completed, the project will significantly increase safety at this important rail crossing. City staff estimate that the project will take six months to complete and will result in periodic lane and road closures.
