Magnolia Park’s Playclothes Vintage Fashions invites the public to a holiday event and fashion show featuring gowns and costumes of the late entertainer Edie Adams on Thursday, December 12, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In addition to the fashion show, a screening will be held of the recently released DVD box set Here’s Edie: The Edie Adams Television Collection. The party also features a live jazz ensemble and wine and cheese served by soon-to-open Luna Vine Wine Bar.
Playclothes owner Wanda Soileau met Ms. Adams’ son Joshua Mills last year and was impressed by the wide-ranging collection of vintage clothes of Ms. Adams. “She had a lot of gowns designed by Galanos and a lot of costumes for her variety show. I’m an ex-dancer, so I loved seeing all those costumes,” commented Ms. Soileau. “One dress that is very interesting has ‘Mrs. Ernie Kovacs’ stitched on the inside.”
Edie Adams and her husband, the legendary comedian Ernie Kovacs, were famous for their television comedy. On the air from 1962-64, Ms. Adams’ variety show guests included Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jr, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Andre Previn, Peter Falk, Nancy Wilson and more mid-20th century luminaries. James Galanos was a major American fashion designer and world-famous coutourier in the 20th century.
Playclothes sells vintage fashions, furniture and home items from the 1930s – 1980s. Their specialty is clothes from the 1940s – 1960s and Playclothes sells many items to television shows focusing on that time period, including Mad Men and Masters of Sex. Some of the Edie Adams collection will also be for sale at the December 12 event. Playclothes is located at 3100 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank’s Magnolia Park shopping district.
