New Closures and Detours Announced for CalTrans Work

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes and ramps of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) as part of a $121 million improvement project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes in each direction along I-5 between SR-170 to Buena Vista Street. Closures are subject to change. Detours will be signed.

Bridge on Bob Hope Drive Closed for Six Months

Motorists can expect inconvenience and possible delays in the Burbank area as Metro’s project contractor improves, widens and builds a sound wall at the bridge of State Route 134 at Bob Hope Drive.

During construction, portions of Bob Hope Drive will be closed where it crosses below the freeway between Warner Boulevard and Riverside Drive. Work includes installation of temporary support structures that will reduce clearance at the overpass.

A signed detour will be provided to direct traffic around the closure. In addition, eastbound State Route 134 motorists exiting Bob Hope Drive and wishing to access destinations north of State Route 134 will be detoured via Riverside Drive and Buena Vista Street.

Work begins at 7 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 and is expected to be completed November 5, 2013.

 

Caltrans Seeks Public Input on Statewide Rail Plan

Caltrans, which manages two of the nation’s busiest passenger rail lines, is asking its rapidly growing passenger base what they think about rail systems in the Golden State.

The department will host five public open houses and a statewide webinar this month to solicit input on the draft California State Rail Plan (CSRP), which will lay out a vision for freight, passenger and high-speed rail in the state. The draft plan is available on the Internet
(http://californiastaterailplan.com/) and comments can be submitted through March 11.  

“Each year, nearly six million passengers ride the trains in California,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “It’s important that we find out what our citizens have to say about rail, because their input will help us build a truly connected California.”

Ridership on California trains is up 56 percent since 2002, and California has about 18 percent of all Amtrak riders.

“The Authority looks forward in working with Caltrans and our local partners to implement a statewide rail modernization plan that invests in urban, commuter, intercity, and high-speed rail lines to meet the state’s 21st century transportation needs,” said Jeff Morales, CEO of California High-Speed Rail Authority.

The final plan (scheduled to be issued this summer) will fully integrate California’s future high-speed rail system with existing and proposed conventional rail systems. The plan will serve as a basis for federal and state investments for high-speed and intercity passenger rail in California and will also describe the existing conditions of the state’s rail systems and the economic and environmental benefits of improvements.

Caltrans Closes Alameda Offramp for Two Months

As part of the improvements, crews will be removing the existing asphalt pavement on northbound I-5 Alameda Avenue off-ramp and replacing it with concrete pavement. This work will also accommodate the addition of the new carpool lanes for the widening of the freeway. A long-term closure of northbound I-5 eastbound and westbound Alameda Avenue off-ramps will be necessary to complete this work. Sunday, December 9, 2012 through Friday, February 8, 2013   9 p.m. to 6 a.m. (60-day continuous closure).

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any inconvenience to you. You may hear construction noise, but it will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations.

Multiple Closures of Streets Planned Around I-5 Contruction Project

Flower Street Sewer Work/Temporary Full Street Closure 

 Caltrans is constructing a carpool lane on the Golden State Freeway (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.

As part of the improvements, crews will begin excavation for the removal and replacement of the existing sewer pipe lines at the intersection of Flower Street and Providencia Avenue.

To ensure motorist safety, a full street closure of Flower Street will be required.  Local traffic on Flower Street and Providencia Avenue will be given access. You may hear construction noise during this operation, but it will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations.

The closures will take place from ate October 2012/early November 2012 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

55-Hour Closure of Northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp 

Crews will be building a retaining wall on the northbound I-5 between Verdugo Avenue and Angelino Avenue as well as widening the northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp. This work will require the closure of the existing northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp to build a new temporary off-ramp during a 55-hour ramp closure.

The work will begin Monday night, October 29, through Thursday morning,November 1, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. (55-hour Closure).

New I-5 Construction Updates, Alameda Ave. to Experience Closures

Caltrans is contructing a carpool lane on the Golden State Freeway      (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.

As part of the improvements, crews will be pile driving on the I-5 median at Alameda Avenue. The piles will provide structural support necessary for the widening of the freeway.

There will be no lane closures on the freeway.

This construction activity will require a partial closure of Alameda Avenue. At least one lane in each direction will be open at all times. Flaggers will be on site to control the flow of traffic. Should traffic back up on Alameda Avenue, there will be a detour in place. Monday, September 17, through Friday, October 12, 2012 – Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m

You may hear construction noise and experience vibrations during this operation. Noise will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations.

About the Project

This project is building a high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction along the Golden State Freeway (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, a total distance of 5.4 miles (2.7 miles in each direction). It is also constructing sound walls and retaining walls.

55-Hour Closure of Northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp 

 Caltrans is contructing a carpool lane on the Golden State Freeway  (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.

As part of the improvements, crews will be building a retaining wall on the northbound I-5 between Verdugo Avenue and Angelino Avenue as well as widening the northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp. This work will require the closure of the existing northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp to build a new temporary off-ramp during a 55-hour ramp closure.

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any inconvenience to you. You may hear construction noise, but it will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes and ramps of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) as part of a $121 million improvement project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes in each direction along I-5 between SR-170 to Buena Vista Street. The California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) will close the following lanes and ramps of the Golden State
Freeway (I-5) as part of a $121 million improvement project to construct
High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes in each direction along I-5
between SR-170 to Buena Vista Street. Closures are subject to change.

About the Project
