Police Respond to Gunshot On Harvard Rd.

Burbank Police responded to the 600 block of E. Harvard Rd. at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday night, after receiving reports of shots being fired.

Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot.   They said that a man in one of the apartments was yelling “I am not a terrorist” and “If you come up here I’m going to kill you.”    According to police, only one shot was fired by the suspect, and no one was injured.  He reportedly threatened one of his neighbors.

When officers arrived on the scene, they quickly blocked streets in the area. They ordered the suspect to come out.  He did exit his apartment, but re-entered several times, ignoring officers’ commands.  Finally, he came out and began walking towards the officers yelling at them to shoot and kill him. When he reached into his waistband, officers discharged less-lethal sponge bullets and a Taser to subdue him and take him into custoday.

The suspect, Jahanbakhsh Azhdarinezhad, 62,   He was placed under arrest for making terrorist threats and negligent discharging of a firearm.  He was transported to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and treated minor injuries before  being booked into the Burbank Jail.  His bail was set at $50,000.  He is due to appear in court on Friday.
