By On June 5, 2015

Burbank Police arrested Glendale resident Clarke Surrey, age 23, on June 4 after the department investigated a tip that the former John Burroughs High School employee may have had an ongoing sexual relationship with a student, according to Sergeant Adam Cornils of the Burbank Police Department.

“The investigation found that Mr. Surrey had sexual relationships with two separate female students from approximately 2011 to 2015,” Cornils said in a statement released by the BPD.

BPD police Car Logo-2Surrey had been employed as the Assistant Technology Director for the Theater Technology Group at JBHS when the two separate relationships began.

“Multiple incidents occurred off campus with two separate former female students who were between the ages of 15 and 17 when the offenses occurred,” Cornils added.

“It appears that Mr. Surrey may have taken photos and videos at the time of some of the incidents. Both students have since graduated and Mr. Surrey no longer works for the school district.”

“There is nothing to indicate that any other school employees were involved in, or had any knowledge of, Mr. Surrey’s actions,” the statement explained. “At this time there is no evidence to suggest there are any additional victims.”

“Both students have been identified, but their information is not being released due to their ages at the time of the offenses. There is nothing to indicate that Mr. Surrey distributed any of the photos or videos related to the victims.”

Surrey was booked on felony charges of violating 261.5(a) of the California Penal Code, 288(a)(b)(1) of the California Penal Code and  311.11(a) of the California Penal Code.

Filing of this case with the District Attorney’s Office is pending. Due to the age of the victims, no further information will be released at this time.

Surrey is being held on $50,000 bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility operated by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in Downtown Los Angeles.
