St. Francis Xavier won the 7th-8th grade NAC Division CYO flag football league championship with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over a tough St. Charles team, 12-8. The Lancers finished league with an undefeated record of 6-0.
The game was played on Tuesday at Foy Park before a loud and boisterous crowd.
In the first round of the CYO playoffs, St. Francis Xavier beat Christ the King, 20-0, on Saturday.
The Lancers lost to St. Elizabeth on Sunday, 14-12, at Notre Dame High School. Trailing 14-0, St. Francis Xavier rallied to almost complete a miraculous comeback.
It was quite a season for the Lancers, who started four seventh graders on the team. They finished 7-1 overall.
“Our kids played hard and never quit. It was a tough one to lose,” Coach Mike Graceffo said. “Our future looks bright and we are excited about next season.”
Members of the NAC Division League Championship team include: Jonathan Topete, Chris Mai, Darian Calderon, Patrick Shashaty, Joseph Augustine, Odadele Hospidales, Nathan Priestley, Brandon Giraldo, Michael Romagnino, Dante Valle, Miles Kenney, Alan Salciccioli, Joe Whelan and Thomas Kinney.
Head coach Mike Graceffo and assistant coaches Carlos Perez, Chris Augustine, Thomas Perez and Marco Angrisani did a superb job with these boys.
