A coroner’s official disclosed that the death of a 16 year-old boxer from North Hollywood died from internal bleeding caused by a ruptured spleen. BurbankNBeyond was the first to report on the death that occurred July 26.
Raul Alvarez, Jr. had been sparring and was wearing protective head gear at the time but started to feel ill and sat down to rest. After not feeling better, Burbank Paramedics were called and transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he died a couple of hours later.
Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department said that the case is closed based on the coroner’s report and that no further action will take place.
“It was just a tragic accident,” Ryburn said.
Pullman’s Gym on Magnolia has only been open for a few months and a call to the owner was not returned. The gym specializes in boxing with a full ring inside.
