A 17-year-old Burbank resident was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Thursday after a juvenile boy was stabbed near the Burbank Town Center, according to Burbank Police.
Officers responded to Magnolia Boulevard and San Fernando Boulevard at about 1:30 p.m. on October 15, 2026, following reports of an altercation involving several juveniles and a possible stabbing. They located a crime scene near the shopping center, but those involved had left before officers arrived.
Officers found the juvenile victim a short time later with a stab wound to his arm. He was transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition. Police said the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.
Investigators identified a 17-year-old suspect and arrested him at about 7:30 p.m. Formal charges are pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Separately, Burbank High School Principal Steven Hubbell supplied information about a student walkout to City Hall, which he said was unrelated to the incident near the mall. His account has not been independently verified.
According to Hubbell, students from Burbank High School and John Burroughs High School independently organized the walkout concerning issues surrounding Cornell and the prevention of sexual violence. He said the event was not school-sponsored and that Burbank High neither encourages nor discourages participation in such activities. Because students organized the event independently, the school did not distribute an announcement to families, he said.
Hubbell said two school officials accompanied participating Burbank High students to City Hall to support their safety. Their presence did not make the walkout a school-sponsored activity, he said. He added that students exercised their right to peaceful expression safely and that many later returned to campus.
Hubbell emphasized that the City Hall walkout and the incident near the mall were separate, unrelated events. The victim’s age and whether he was a high school student were not disclosed, nor was it disclosed whether the involved parties had been part of the protest held earlier.
Police said the stabbing did not occur on school grounds and that there was no ongoing threat to students or the community. The motive and circumstances leading to the altercation remain under investigation.
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Burbank Police Department’s Investigation Division at (818) 238-3210.
