Thursday evening the Burbank Police Department was contacted by the family of a 17-year-old girl, who attends John Burroughs High School. The juvenile told officers she had been having an on-going “consensual” sexual relationship with Jose Banuelos Jr., a 28-year-old resident of Burbank.

The investigation has revealed the sexual relationship dates back about 2 1/2 years when the victim was 15 years old. Banuelos, an assistant baseball coach at John Burroughs High School and a part-time City of Burbank employee with Parks and Recreation, was arrested earlier today in the Ralph’s Supermarket parking lot, 2600 W. Victory Boulevard. He was in possession of a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest.

Banuelos has been booked into the Burbank City Jail on several charges related to this investigation. Those charges include having sexual relations with a minor, acts of oral copulation with a minor, lewd acts on a minor and possession of a loaded firearm in public. Most of the sex crimes include the element that Banuelos was over 21 years of age and the victim was under 16 at the time of the acts.

Banuelos’ bail is currently set at $325,000. This case will be presented to the LA County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. He is due to appear in the Burbank Branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday morning.

This is an on-going investigation. Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Detective John Voorhis at (818) 238-3210 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.

  1. Not only a Burbank resident, but a Burroughs high school Assistant Varsity Baseball coach. Guess they elected to leave that information out since the chief editor of this site is the Burroughs Varsity Baseball Head Coach. If a Minor was preyed upon, we as Burbank residents deserve to know where that took place.

    • Editor’s Note: Maybe you were so fast to judge that you did not read the release that stated he was a Burroughs Coach. Nothing is being hidden or withheld, nor does the employment of any myBurbank staff have anything to do with the allegations. Maybe you should call the police department at the number supplied in the article if you have further questions since they are the ones who released this information. We report all the news – good or bad, so that comment is without merit.

  2. What kind of jerk writes in the comment section accusing this site of not including information that was clearly stated in the news release. Obviously Mr. Penny (? lol) has an ax to grind with this site so he states something that is clearly written. Guess he didn’t learn how to read in school. For anyone that knows anything, this was information from an official news release from the Burbank Police Department. Too bad that this clown is so upset with the baseball program that he decides he needs to “shine a light” on the fact he also just happens to coach in the JBHS baseball program. This had nothing to do with the program, it’s other fine coaches, or the players. These are the same players who have played their butts off so successfully and obviously are much more mature that Mr. Penny.

  3. My mistake, it was over looked out of my anger towards the situation at hand and my apologies to the Editor.

Now, Mr. Holtman? Lol Nobody is upset with the players, it’s coaching staff or the baseball program. The story has nothing to do with it’s players, so I don’t even know why you would bring that up. It’s about a resident, and Assistant coach who had sex with a minor for over 2 1/2 years. You seem to have gotten away from the topic. Maybe due to your insecurities you felt the need to mention the players and their success, assuming of course that your little boy is on the team. Or maybe you’re a friend of Banuelos and will support him through thick and thin no matter what he’s accused of. If that’s the case Mr. Banuelos suporter, you can F.O! I can read through your bull shit and you are ovbviously the one who has an axe to grind. You’re just a big sissy with tons of insecurities whose wife probably needs to pet him from time to time just to make him think he’s important.

  5. Reading these comments by Mr. Penny is pretty scary. I have commented on this site before and have always found that people that throw insults and accusations at other commenters are some of the most dangerous people around. I am sure he will respond with some sort of insult or verbal attack, because that is what bullies do when they are held accountable for being incorrect and wrong. It is too bad that the most he can do in response is attack another commenter who simply called him out for being wrong. Name calling, cussing, and accusations of support for a child abuser?? Take responsibility for being wrong and relax.
