Senior Gold 20  Palmdale 18 (3 OT)

In the game of the day, Senior Gold’s defense stole the show once again as the Vikings defeated Palmdale, 20-18, in triple overtime at Burbank High School. Ben Chavez (six tackles, two sacks), Jose Benitez (four tackles, two deflected passes) and Chris Seidler (10 tackles, one sack) led the stingy Vikings defense to their third straight victory.

The score was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation play and the game continued under the “California Tie-Breaker” rule in which each team gets four attempts to score from the 10-yard line. Tommy Sanchez ran for two touchdowns in overtime but Palmdale matched scores and forced a triple overtime.

Gabriel Pellot hit Dyllan Esquivel with a short touchdown pass to take an 18-12 lead in the third OT. Carson Palmer then converted the two-point conversion on a five-yard pass from Pellot to give the Vikings a 20-12 lead. Palmdale answered with a touchdown of its own but they were unable to convert the two-point conversion.

After losing the first game of the year, Senior Gold is now 3-1 heading into a bye week.

Canyon Gold 22  Midget Black 20

Time was not on the side of Midget Black (1-2) as they lost a nail bitter to Canyon Gold, 22-20, on the final play of the game at Canyon High School.

With less than two minutes remaining in the game, the Vikings defense held Canyon Gold on fourth down to take over the ball with an opportunity to win the game. Quarterback Matthew Moreno marched the Vikings down field more than 60 yards via air and ground assault but time ran out before the final snap on the 12-yard line.

Moreno passed for more than 150 yards and Christopher Rozo had 110 yards receiving and 50 yards rushing. After winning the first game of the season, Midget Black has lost two in a row and will face Highland next week at Lancaster High School.
