The Joaquin Miller Elementary School 4th and 5th Grade Student Council Representatives chose the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter (VBAS) as their February 2026 Community Service Project. Students and their families donated food, supplies and monetary gifts for the dogs and cats at the Burbank Animal Shelter. The generous support was monumental including raising over $550 for medical supplies and care.
VBAS Volunteers care for the animals, fundraise, and operate many life-saving programs throughout the shelter. Programs run by the VBAS include the Kitten Foster Program that saves over 300 kittens every year, a Medical Program that provides medicines, equipment and supplies that the City of Burbank cannot fund, a Barn Cat Program that finds homes for feral and otherwise unadoptable cats, and a Happy Tails program that takes shelter dogs out hiking in local parks and canyons. The VBAS is a 501c3 non-profit organization entirely operated by volunteers and 100% funded by private donations.
