Sponsored by the Burbank Armenian Association, SB 1198 was developed through direct community engagement and on the ground public safety efforts. The bill builds on the foundation of the Drive Right, Save Lives campaign, a local initiative launched in response to a tragic high speed crash in Burbank that claimed three young lives. Since then, the campaign has focused on prevention through education, awareness, and community partnerships.

“This is an early win for Burbank, Glendale, and the State of California in the fight against reckless driving,” said Romik Hacobian, President of the Burbank Armenian Association. “This bill reflects the voices of a community that came together to turn tragedy into action. We are focused on solutions that prevent loss of life and create safer streets for everyone.”

While thousands of bills are introduced each legislative session, only a small percentage receive unanimous, bipartisan support at this stage. The 6–0 vote signals strong early momentum as SB 1198 moves forward in the legislative process.

The Burbank Armenian Association extended its appreciation to community organizations, local leaders, and residents who submitted letters of support and helped elevate the importance of this issue.

SB 1198 will next be considered by the Senate Appropriations Committee before advancing to the Senate floor, Assembly, and ultimately the Governor’s desk.
