The following email was sent to parents from Burbank High School Principal Steven Hubbell on Wednesday afternoon:
Dear Burbank High School Families and Staff,
We are writing to inform you that Burbank High School is being evacuated and dismissed immediately due to a phone call received by the school reporting a possible threat to the campus.
Out of an abundance of caution, we are dismissing students at this time. The Burbank Police Department is currently on campus and is actively working in coordination with school administration and district officials to investigate the situation and ensure safety.
Please coordinate pick up of your student at the vacant Kmart parking lot.
More information will be shared as it becomes available. Thank you for your cooperation, patience, and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
Respectfully,
Steven Hubbell
Principal
Burbank High School

Dear Burbank High School Families and Staff,
We are writing to share an important update and to confirm that Burbank High School has been declared safe and there are no threats to the campus.
With the assistance of the Burbank Police Department, we were able to confirm that the phone number used to report the earlier threat was a spoofed number and that Burbank High School was the target of a swatting incident. After a thorough check of the entire campus, law enforcement has determined that there is no active threat.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Burbank Police Department for their partnership, professionalism, and assistance in carefully inspecting the campus and ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, support staff, and administrators.
We are also incredibly grateful to our students, families, and staff for your cooperation, patience, and understanding during today’s dismissal. Safety remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the community’s support as we acted out of an abundance of caution.
If you have any information that may be helpful regarding individuals who may have been involved in this incident, please contact school administration directly or submit information through the anonymous BUSD Tip Line at (818)729-4585, a dedicated email address tipline@burbankusd.org, or the online reporting system. These tools are available at all times for students, families, and staff to report concerns related to safety, misconduct, or well‑being.
Thank you again for your partnership and trust as we work together to keep our schools safe.
Respectfully,
Steven Hubbell
