Letter to the Editor:
This is a time for caution. As we look at the Burbank City Council, we need to take a hard, honest look at where we’ve been and where we are heading.
Right now, we have two incumbents with track records that speak for themselves. They have repeatedly cast votes that compromise our public safety, consistently supported fee hikes across the board, and watched utility bills skyrocket under their watch—all while remaining openly critical of our law enforcement. The reality is that their policies have made life in Burbank significantly more expensive. Runaway overtime has gone unchecked across city departments, resulting in individual pay packages exceeding $500,000, with dozens more in the $300,000 to $400,000 range. We are seeing our municipal resources drained from the inside out, and it simply isn’t sustainable. To top it off, they even targeted paid parking—monetizing something that had always been free for our community. If you feel like living in Burbank has gotten progressively more unaffordable, you aren’t imagining it. Yet now, both incumbents are asking for four more years to “finish the job.”
No thanks.
At the same time, several challengers in this race are just as concerning. Many bring radical agendas that would push our city further in the wrong direction. We have to be clear-eyed about the Democratic Socialist platform; they aren’t hiding their objectives, they openly advertise them. Their stated priorities include defunding our police, imposing draconian rent control measures that penalize local property and business owners, eroding Second Amendment rights, and siphoning tax dollars out of the General Fund for Universal Basic Income and other experimental schemes.
This is precisely why we must proceed with caution.
Burbank deserves leaders who will stand up for everyone. We need representatives with genuine common sense, a proven history of hands-on community service, and a commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe—not ideologies pushing destructive agendas that punish the hard-working residents who built this city.
