For the seventh straight year, Nickelodeon and Burbank Unified staff put on Chalk Day for the children of George Washington Elementary on October 4, in celebration of National Art Day. Artists and staff from the Burbank-based studio arrived when school began at 8:30 a.m., and created works of art with chalk on the playground, splashing iconic Nickelodeon characters in full-color across the asphalt surface.

As the first morning recess began at 10:00 a.m., the younger grades had time to add their own drawings. By the time the older grades finished their morning recess at 10:40 a.m., the playground was filled with colorful chalk art. Plenty of Spongebobs, Ninja Turtles, Planktons, Cosmos, Wandas and Links were scattered about, along with flowers, dinosaurs, robots, stick figures, rainbows and more.

The Nickelodeon artists also talked and drew with the children, helping them create drawings both large and small, simple and complex. “This is really exciting, to be part of this art with the kids,” commented Nickelodeon’s Eun Soo Jeong, who took part in her second Chalk Day event. “The kids are so happy when we are here. I love it!”
