State of Burbank Public Schools Remains Positive

For the second year in a row, members of the Burbank community gathered at the Castaway Banquet Center to hear a presentation of the progress being achieved by the Burbank Unified School District.

As guests arrived, they were treated to a performance by students from the Burroughs High School Jazz Band.

School Board President Steve Ferguson welcomed the guests and recognized many in the crowd who had supported the District in the past year.

Superintendent Matt Hill spoke next and gave a positive outlook for the schools in the coming years. Although, he emphasized that funding by the State of California was still at the 2008 levels. He noted community involvement and many improvements in the schools, thanks to 2017’s 90 for 90 campaign that raised $90,000 to celebrate the District’s 90th anniversary.

He then introduced a 10-minute video that on the progress and many standout achievements in the District, from preschool, elementary, middle, high and adult schools.

The morning breakfast ended with the Burroughs Vocal Music Association’s Powerhouse performing for the attendees.  It was a unique experience for the audience as the performers circled the ballroom and provided a true surround sound.
