Burbank Police conducted a DUI Checkpoint Saturday, August 27 at Olive and Maple in Burbank.  The operation involved members of the Burbank Police Department’s Traffic Bureau, Patrol Division, and Reserve Officers.  A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds this checkpoint.
Although final stats have yet to be released, Burbank Police detained several for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and were transported to jail.  Several vehicles were also impounded during the operation.  Besides checking for drunk drivers, others were also cited for license violations.
The purpose of this operation is to reduce the number of persons killed and seriously injured in alcohol-related traffic collisions and to reduce the amount of property damage caused by impaired drivers. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.
