After operating as an Ipanema-style beach stand outside of Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on Victory Boulevard for the past few years, Acai Jungle Cafe opened the doors to its brick-and-mortar restaurant on July 1. With unique flavors and an attention to nutrition, quality and sourcing, the cafe is a breath of fresh air in Burbank.

Building on the popularity of its fresh and healthy Acai Bowls, the cafe now offers salads and sandwiches, along with snacks, tea, coffee, shakes and smoothies. With several vegan and vegetarian options, Acai Jungle Cafe has something for most every taste.

The newly-opened cafe is light and bright, airy and stylish, with clean white surfaces and lots of green plants. Several cafe tables and a community table provide seating inside the cafe and benches dot the outside rainforest plant-lined patio.

Acai Jungle Cafe’s Acai Bowl is the perfect pick-me-up for those who seek a healthy option to ice creams and frozen treats. The Acai sorbet is made simply from Acai berry puree and organic cane sugar. The standard bowl comes in varying sizes with light granola, bananas and one topping.

Toppings are exciting and a nice change of pace from the typical frozen treat toppings and include fresh seasonal organic fruit, coconut, almonds, chia and hemp seeds, protein-packed goji berries, crunchy cacao nibs and protein-rich bee pollen.

We have tried three combinations so far, including the goji berries, cacao nibs and coconut – all were delicious and added zing to our day. The creaminess of the banana, fresh berry taste of the Acai sorbet and texture of the granola are an unbeatable combination.

The Matcha Green Tea Shake is a vegan energy drink made from matcha, cashew, lavender and sweetened with agave. It’s delicious and refreshing, my new favorite.

The cafe’s sandwiches and salads are fresh and creative. Our whole family has enjoyed the great flavors of the Pesto Chicken Panini, the Wild Tuna Tarragon Panini, the Portobella Mushroom Panini and the Vegan Quinoa Kale salad.

Our favorite sandwich right now is the Portobella Mushroom; the basil aioli is creamy and ties the whole sandwich of mushroom, wild arugula, tomato and red onion on ciabatta bread together.

The Vegan Quinoa Kale salad is also excellent and hearty enough to be a meal. Avocado, carrots, cherry tomatoes, goji berries are mixed with quinoa and tender kale. Topped with the basil ginger vinaigrette, the salad becomes a burst of flavor bite after bite.

The shop also stocks pre-packaged coffee, tea and snacks, including chips, chocolate bars and almond butter. Fresh Date Balls made with cashews, cinnamon, cacao and coconut are sometimes available at the counter.
