Burbank firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 1200 block of Sixth St. in Burbank for smoke coming from an attic in the home.
Burbank’s Engine 11 was first on scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the two-story home. The first truck on scene immediately went to the roof to try and ventilate the attic area to get control of the fire.
As the fire continued to burn, a second alarm was called at 1:19 pm.
According to Battalion Chief Ron Barone over 50 firefighters responded from Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena using the Mutual Aid system. Glendale and Pasadena firefighters also were relocated in vacant Burbank fire stations to stand by for other calls.
Barone said that two residents were displaced because of the fire and will not need Red Cross assistance.
One Burbank Fire Fighter was treated at the scene and then transported to St. Joseph Hospital with heat exhaustion and for precautionary reasons.
Burbank & Glendale Fire Recruits were brought to the scene to learn fire behavior during the incident, they also lent a hand filling air bottles and pulling needed hose.
A preliminary estimate put the damage at $500,000 to the structure and $200,000 to the contents. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.
