The Burroughs and Burbank softball teams enjoyed amazing success on the diamond this year. So as expected, the two schools were well represented in selections of the 2012 All-League Teams in the Pacific League.

Burroughs, Burbank and Crescenta Valley each had two players make the First Team and two players named to the Second Team. Burroughs also had the Player of the Year in senior pitcher Haley Schulmann.

Schulmann was 17-4 overall and posted an ERA of 2.15.  She had 137 strikeouts in 136 1/3 innings pitched and she also hit .354 with a home run and 17 RBI.

Teammates Shannon Trujillo and Michelle Santiago were first team selections for the Indians. Trujillo hit .429 on the season and belted five home runs and drove in 27 runs. She also scored 28 runs. Santiago, a freshman, hit .429 with two home runs, 18 RBI, six triples and seven doubles.

Davina Del Castilla and Caitlin Loera were second-team selections for Burroughs. Additionally, head coach Doug Nicol was named the Pacific League’s Coach of the Year after he guided the Indians to the league crown once again. Burroughs has won three straight league titles and Nicol has captured back-to-back titles after taking over the program for Jose Valle following the 2010 season.

Burbank’s Katie Hooper was an obvious first team selection after hitting .477 with 11 home runs this past season. Had Burbank been able to wrestle the title from Burroughs, Hooper would have been the likely choice for POY honors. Freshman pitcher, Caitlyn Brooks (16-5) was Burbank’s other first team selection.

Teammates Laina Do and Nalani Hernandez settled for second team honors although their numbers warranted the first team. Do hit .442, scored and drove in 27 runs, and had ten extra base hits while  Hernandez hit .434 with six home runs and 30 RBI.
