Deep chestnuts, chocolates, corals and copper. Shimmer or matte. Cream or powder. As Angela looks down at her vast collection of eye shadow shades, she ponders which choice would compliment my skin tone. She looks up at my eyes and makes a decision. As she reaches for the chocolate brown, I close my eyes and wait for her instruction.

Angela is a professionally trained and certified makeup artist, holds a cosmetology license in two states including California and is the owner of Angela Mobile Makeup. After attending cosmetology school on the East Coast, she ventured to Los Angeles in search of the perfect makeup school. When she found a school in Downtown Burbank, she looked around the area and realized she never wanted to leave. She has lived in Burbank for 10 years.

“During my visit I fell absolutely in love with Burbank, which played a large part in my final decision on the school I attended. I immediately made the move to Burbank and have been here ever since. I love the small town, community feel that it has,” Angela said.

Angela started her makeup career in the entertainment industry, working for many celebrities and television shows, including “American Idol,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Access Hollywood,” “Academy of Country Music” and “The Emmys,” to name a few.

“I was really lucky; I met the right people right away. It’s all about the connections you make in this town,” Angela said.

Angela decided to mobilize her company when she realized the only option for women to have their makeup professionally done was to visit a salon or makeup counter. Working in Hollywood for such big names and television shows, Angela realized having a personal makeup artist shouldn’t be a luxury just for the wealthy.

And she was right. Sitting in a tall makeup chair, surrounded by a vast array of professional makeup brands with a bright light shining down on me made the makeup lesson feel like a truly special experience. I felt like I was living a day in the life of a celebrity.

“I wanted to provide the everyday woman with the same services offered to my celebrity clients, which is to have their own personal makeup artist travel to them so that their glam session takes place in the comfort of their home,” Angela said.

Angela truly brings the VIP experience to any home. She provides her own lighting, the entire makeup kit and a makeup chair. She offers personal makeup lessons and group lessons as well as makeup applications. Her services are often used for weddings and professional photography, as well as women attending a dinner party, romantic date night, hitting the town with friends or any other special event. Those who choose a lesson will often take notes and practice the application techniques. Clients also receive a book prior to Angela’s departure, which includes all of her notes and techniques for applying makeup.

While showing me how to apply eye shadow to one eye, she thoughtfully explained the reasoning behind each motion of the brush, inviting me to ask questions or voice any confusion. When she finished one eye, she handed me the brush and said “Now you try.” Her sweet personality and encouraging smile is enough to make anyone feel that they are more than capable of improving their technique. Angela’s teaching style is one that emphasizes application. With each new makeup item, she would apply one side and I would apply the other. It was eye opening to see everything I had been doing wrong the past few years, and what simple techniques I could use to correct it. She offers her clients a face chart for taking notes and marking down favorite brands of makeup in addition to her personalized makeup book.

Her book includes everything from brush guides, to tips on eye shadow application, to lipstick shades, to perfecting the “Five Minute Makeup.” Angela makes it a point to create an entire experience, not just a short lesson where everything that was said is forgotten the next day. She encourages her clients to take notes and come back for a follow-up session if they have extra questions.

“It’s a different experience than you would have at a salon or a department store counter,” Angela said.

While Angela has clients all over Los Angeles, her main base is Burbank.

“I’ve really been connecting with Burbank businesses and the moms of Burbank. It is great for moms; I am able to travel to them. They don’t need to bring their children into a salon, their children can play at home while I show them how to do makeup.”

Angela not only travels to her clients, she is also available beyond normal business hours in a day. She tries to be available to her clients for questions, concerns or appointments.

“You’re always able to reach me. I’m great at returning calls and emails. I’m not solely open between nine and five, Appointments are made when they’re needed,” Angela said. “If you need me at seven at night, I’m there. If you need me really early in the morning, I’m there.”

Angela also offers a personal shopping service to clients who do not have the time or ability to go and purchase their makeup. She is passionate about her business and wants to ensure that anybody can have a truly exceptional makeup experience, without ever having to leave the house.

Angela also offers gift cards for those who wish to treat their loved ones with a personal makeup lesson or glamorous makeup application.

Angela has a five star Yelp rating, with many happy customers praising her for her professionalism, her friendly demeanor and her expertise.
