Tuesday afternoon guests gathered at the Baskin-Robbins store on South Victory Blvd. where the original Baskin-Robbins store was opened and operated 70 years ago. Shirley Baskin, the wife of Burt Baskin and the original co-owner, was on hand with family members and shared stories of those days 70 years ago.
The guests got to enjoy face painting, free giveaways, Ice Cream treats and more. Baskin shared that when the store first opened her husband would bring home the day’s revenues of maybe 50 cents.
The company went from the first store located on South Victory Blvd. to now 7,600 locations in over 50 countries. That store is not only the companies flagship store but also houses their training center, laboratories where flavors are created and more.
Burbank Mayor Bob Frutos was on hand to present a certificate from the City and in his speech to the gathered guests he reminded everyone of the companies slogan “we sell fun, not ice cream” which stands true today.
During the ceremonies Burbank resident Steve Harpst won a gift certificate that will get him free ice cream for a year.
