Choe commits to Cal Baptist University to run cross country

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University men’s cross country and distance track teams have enlisted the help of eight athletes to assist in its pursuit for a fourth-straight PacWest Cross Country Championship and more postseason success in its second year as a full NCAA Division II member in 2014.

Elliot Choe makes a move down the 5 freeway from Burbank High to CBU. He has competed at the state level in cross country, with PRs of 15:25 and 15:55 at Mt. SAC and the State Championship course. In track, Choe owns personal bests of 4:35 and 9:53.29 in the 1600 and 3200, respectively.

It is a diverse group for the Lancers, with five freshmen coming in from Southern California high schools and three transfers, including two nationally-accomplished French runners and another returning to his hometown. This group will join 11 CBU returners, as it aims at qualifying for the Division II Championships again and building on its 22nd place finish from 2013.

“We are very excited to welcome this group into the Lancer family,” head coach Ben Gall said. “Our staff believes they provide a good mix of young raw talent and experienced athletes with a wide variety of athletic backgrounds that will continue to move our team toward the top of the NCAA Division II ranks. We are looking to build on last year’s success and believe this class will help us do that immediately and into the future.”
