A 38-year old Burbank man a bicycle was struck by another Burbank resident driving a vehicle at the intersection of Hollywood Way and Pacific Avenue Sunday evening, May 18, at 11:21 p.m.
Police determined that the bicyclist was heading southbound on Hollywood Way in the northbound bike lane, according to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.
The driver of the 2011 Toyota Corrolla had been traveling westbound on Pacific Avenue and was turning right to go north on Hollywood Way, when he struck the bicyclist, Ryburn added.
The bicyclist was unconscious and non-responsive. He was transported to L.A. County Medical Center with significant head trauma. He was conscious at the hospital for a police interview after the accident, Ryburn also said, but he remains in critical condition.
While the driver of the Corolla, 18-year-old Jonathan Rheume, was arrested for possession of cocaine and his vehicle impounded. there is “no indication the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident,” said Ryburn.
Rhueme was booked at the Burbank Jail and his bail was set at $10,000 and he is due in court Tuesday, May 20.
