Burbank’s Central Library on Glenoaks Blvd. will remain CLOSED this complete week following a flood caused by a broken water pipe in the middle of the night. Emergency crews were summonsed to the library when an alarm was triggered that there was water flowing inside the main floor of the library. Burbank Fire Department responded at around 5:15 Sunday morning to find a 2 to 3 inch water pipe broke in the ceiling about the 700 section of books, (The history Section). Once the water flow was stopped they had thousands of books damaged and the carpet thorough the main floor was completely wet.
Library Staff was called in along with Public Works and maintenance crews to start the cleanup. Hundreds of books were destroyed, and another thousand had to be opened and left to dry. Sharon Cohen Library Services Director says the cleanup will take at least a week, and the Library will need to remain CLOSED till the carpet is replaced and books are dried out enough to be put back on the shelves
