Aspiring young Burbank & North Hollywood dancers Malia Tyler (11 years), Jessica Reslan (10 Years), Rachel Robles (14 years), Liv Hutchings (15 Years) & Hannah Dragomer (15 years) from Independence Dance Company (IDC) celebrated another success after auditioning and being chosen to perform with Kat Graham at Variety’s Power of Youth 2012 event, held September 15. Honorees at Variety’s event included the Jonas Brothers, Jordin Sparks, Vanessa Hudgens, Sarah Hyland, & Diego Boneta.

Independence Dance Company was created in 2010 to give dedicated young dancers a professional training program.  Offering classes in many styles of dance including pointe, ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, salsa, and hip hop.  IDC wants to broaden its dancers knowledge and understanding of movement and choreography to prepare them for the diverse world of professional dance.

The rapid success of this small company is due to the co-directors, Amy Hutchings and Mara Tylers, decision to have their dancers trained and mentored by working professionals.  The faculty and Choreographers work on shows like “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “X-Factor” and “American Idol” and work with artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Travis Wall, and Sonya Tayeh.   As a result, these young dancers are getting the highest quality training and learning everything they need to know to be successful in this industry.

Due to the company’s tremendous growth and success, IDC has expanded its’ program to include a younger age group. According to Co-Director, Amy Hutchings, the studio had to expand its’ space to accommodate the new “Pre-Professional Training Program.” The new comprehensive program offers little people, (3-12 years), an opportunity to be trained in the following:  All forms of dance, tumbling, performance, make-up, costuming, improvisation, and audition preparation.

Current IDC members range in age from 9- 16 years and most reside in Burbank and surrounding areas. Their successes include the following:
