This past week the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) stopped by Burbank Fire Station 11 to present firefighters with MDA’s top honor, The Fire Department of the Year Award.
This year marks the sixtieth year that MDA has had a partnership between firefighters across the country. In 2013, firefighters helped raise $26.2 million dollars to help fight muscular dystrophy. From 2007 to 2014, the Burbank Firefighters alone have raised $248,222.
During the presentation, youngster Ben Page assisted. Page’s father works for the Pasadena Fire Department. Page helped present a plaque to Fire Chief Tom Lenahan, along with a big check showing the amount given this past year alone. The Burbank firefighters presented Page with his own Challenge Coin and a mini Burbank Fire Badge, along with other gifts.
This past year, BFD raised $57,567.42 and that will be used for 14.8 hours of research and will help send 72 kids, including Page, to summer camp. The funds will also help repairs to 115 power wheelchairs.
