Burbank High girls’ tennis coach Loi Phan is likely to retire next summer after nearly 40 years of teaching and coaching at Burbank and his alma mater, Glendale High.
One thing Phan has never done on the girls’ side is lose to Burroughs during his time with the Bulldogs, which began in 2007.
Thursday afternoon the Burbank girls’ team made sure that record remained intact, winning 16-2 in a Boulder League contest.
“We’re all going to miss him, but we appreciate the time we’ve been able to spend with him,” senior Jordan Prilutsky said. “We’re all going to remember how Phan was amazing for us.”
The win also gives Burbank the league title outright over La Canada. Burroughs finishes third in the Boulder League with a 4-4 mark.
Burroughs coach Joel Dacay tried to change things up after losing to Burbank 15-3 last week in the first head-to-head matchup between the rival schools.
While the changes made some sets interesting, the end result remained.
