Burbank High School Solar Cup Team will be going to compete this Friday through Sunday, May 13 – 15 at Lake Skinner in San Bernardino County.
This is an annual competition for high school students to build a 16 foot flat bottomed boat and power it with an electric motor and solar panels.
There a two types of races they compete in. There is a sprint and a 90 minute endurance race. Competition also includes a Public Service Announcement and engineering inspections throughout the year.
This past weekend the team took the boat out to Hansen Dam to make sure that everything was working properly. There about 22 students on the team each with an area of responsibility.
Team advisor is Mr. David Card, AP Physics instructor.
