Joseph Valento, Jr., age 41 and a Burbank resident, was arrested on Friday, February 14, for DUI causing bodily injury to another person after an accident in the area of Bethany Road and Glenoaks Blvd. at approximately 6:15 p.m. that evening.

Burbank Police officers in the area at the time observed smoke coming from a vehicle that had just been in an accident. At the scene, officers interviewed both Valento, the driver of a Chevy Silverado, and the driver of the red Subaru Forester SUV.

According to the driver of the Forester, he had been stopped at a red light and was suddenly rear-ended by the driver of the Silverado, said Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.

The Forester sustained damaged to the rear end of the vehicle and its driver complained of lower back pain. The injured driver told officers he would seek his own medical treatment, added Ryburn.

Valento “failed to satisfactorly pass a field sobriety test,” commented Ryburn.

Valento is the son of retired Burbank Police Captain Joseph Valento, Sr., and brother to Anthony Valento, also a Burbank Police officer who has been on administrative leave after recently pleading not guilty to federal corruption charges.

Valento was charged with violating section 23153 (A) of the California Vehicle Code and was transferred to L.A. County Jail. His bail was set at $100,000.
