Burbank High’s Angel Villagran threw a perfect game in a 10-0 victory against Hoover yesterday at BHS. Villagran was in the zone from start to finish as he struck out seven batters in five innings while throwing 42 strikes and only 17 balls. He connected on 10 first-pitch strikes. Villagran induced seven groundouts and one flyout.
The Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the third inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead versus the powerless Tornadoes. Ian McKinnon hit a solo home run while Ricky Perez, Chris Okimoto and Harrison Hernandez each had two hits on the afternoon.
Burbank improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in Pacific League play.
The Bulldogs now travel to Tuscon, Ariz., for the “Lancer Classic” hosted by Sal Pointe High School. The first game of pool play is scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. against Cienega. Tuesday will feature a matchup against Ironwood Ridge at 1 p.m. and Wednesday versus Catalina at 4 p.m. All three schools hail from Arizona. BHS will also have games on Thursday and Friday as part of their Spring Break baseball extravaganza.
