The Burbank Community YMCA Child Development Center (CDC) received a contribution from the Burbank Association of REALTORS Community Service Foundation on Thursday, December 22.
“This grant will help the (CDC) complete work on their Outdoor Classroom” said, Mary Cutone, CDC Director. “Because of the Realtors Association’s generosity, we will be able to realize our vision. This is a very exciting time.”
The original toddler yard has already been renovated. The final phase of construction is underway now in the CDC play yard. The construction of the new sandbox and bike path will begin, followed by the installation of a tire swing, and three young shade trees being planted. Finally, the remaining outdoor areas will be resurfaced with Fibar Engineered Wood Fiber playground chips. The Outdoor Classroom is scheduled to be finished by the end of January.
The project’s goal is to increase the quantity, quality and benefit of outdoor activity for children ages 0-5. “Helping children learn ‘how the world works’ through environmental awareness and providing extended outdoor exercise that fosters the establishment of a lifelong pattern of physical activity are but a few of the goals of the Outdoor Classroom,” said Cutone.
