The Burbank Recycle Center will be hosting it’s second annual Earth Day event on Saturday April 20th, 2013 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the BurbanSlide2k Recycle Center.

Last year nearly 1,000 people descended onto the grounds of the recycle center to enjoy gourmet food trucks, live music, tours of the recycle center, and to experience local sustainability resources available to the community. Free compost will be available again as well as complimentary paper shredding services. City departments will be promoting programs such as: energy and water rebates, renewable energy initiatives, free tree programs, rain barrel rebates, transportation projects, landscaping resources, free compost bins and oil buckets, Parks & Rec programs and the Sustainability Commission will be on hand to describe their current projects. There will be organizations to explain water issues in our area and even a resident giving away home-made rain barrels. The latest electric vehicles will be on display including an electric motorcycle. Bicycle organizations will be on hand to talk about bike safety and maintenance classes, bike restoration programs, safe routes to school, and there will even be short workshops on how to fix a flat. Gardeners can find out more about the Farmer’s Market, Master Gardeners’ program, as well as the school garden programs that are growing in Burbank.

This year we are featuring an all new “Kid’s Corner” with a myriad of arts & crafts utilizing recycled materials. There will also be face painting, photo booths, games, a mini recycle truck, music and more. Adults can enjoy the complimentary coffee and tea served up all day by Starbucks volunteers in the shade of the comfy café. Cups will be available but guests are asked to remember to bring their reusable water bottles and coffee mugs to save on dish washing.

Slide7Guests will have an opportunity to guess the number of recyclable items in a giant Plexiglas cube to win a new Kindle Fire. Other opportunity drawing prizes include an iPod shuffle, gift certificates to local restaurants, Starlight Bowl tickets and bowling passes.

Feel free to visit our facebook (http://www.facebook.com/BurbankRecycleCenter) page and click “like” to receive an additional opportunity drawing entry for a chance to win any of the amazing prizes.

The event will take place rain or shine. Parking can be found on the street and at the Public Works Yard parking lot on Verdugo between Lake and S Varney but guests are encouraged to bike, walk, bus, or carpool to the event to reduce congestion and to experience Burbank in a new way.
