From a small shop in a strip mall off Olive Avenue, the Burbank location of Philly’s Best has been serving up some of the best authentic cheesesteaks in all of Los Angeles for many years.
Philly’s Best Burbank is open daily for lunch and dinner, and their signature sandwich is available with a number of options. In addition to the cheesesteak, the menu includes hoagies, a vegetarian sandwich, Taylor pork roll, burgers and a few salads, along with onion rings and fries.
All Philly’s Best locations offer traditional Pennsylvania sub shop favorites, including Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer, Tastykakes, Herr’s Potato Chips and Hank’s Sodas.
We’ve been enjoying the Burbank location for close to two decades, and stopped in recently to try both our favorite – the Philly’s Best Cheesesteak – and the Italian Hoagie. Both subs were terrific.
Once again, the Philly’s Best Cheesesteak remains the standard: thinly sliced steak is sauteed with sweet peppers and mushrooms (we add grilled onions), topped with white American cheese and nestled in a soft, fresh Amoroso roll. We like to add hot cherry peppers for some extra kick. The Amoroso roll is key – airy and light, the bread isn’t too bulky but contains the melty goodness inside very well.
The Italian Hoagie was very good, made with capicola, genoa salami, mortadella and provolone cheese. We got ours Philly style – with oil, vinegar and hot peppers – on an Amoroso roll. We also tried the onion rings which were very crispy and served with a side of Ranch dressing.
We often have to snag a package of Tastykakes or a Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer for personal reasons. Herr’s chips are good, but we do prefer Middleswarth just to be clear.
The Southland chain’s first location opened in Fountain Valley in 1992. Since then, the restaurant has franchised 20 locations in the area, with the latest spot in Riverside opening soon. So no matter where you are in the Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange County areas, a Philly’s Best should be nearby.
We’re thrilled with our Burbank location. For fast, friendly service and consistently delicious food, Philly’s Best Burbank earns a Tops In Town.
