Junior Green 34 North Oxnard 20
Like a well-oiled machine the Burbank Vikings Junior Green took care of business and handed North Oxnard a 34-20 setback.
The Vikings (5-0) led 16-0 after the first quarter and the scoring began when Sebastian Leal crossed the goal line.
The tally was made possible when quarterback Bryce Young (five for eight and 85 yards) on fourth and 21, tagged running back Dante Coxsom with a 24-yard pass. Coxsom also added a 48-yard run on the drive.
Young’s two-pointer made it 8-0.
Young later hit slot receiver Chandler Auguste with a 20-yard throw that put the Vikings in front 14-0, and Loyal Terry’s run on the two-point try boosted the lead to 16-0.
Leal’s nine-yard romp made it 22-0 and was aided by Auguste’s 15-yard dash and Isaac Cordova’s brilliant 22-yard catch.
When Coxsom, who finished with 82 yards on six carries, grabbed a short screen pass and sprinted 20 yards while breaking at least seven tackles, the Vikings pulled in front, 28-0.
The Vikings led 34-0 at the end of the third quarter when third-string field general Franco Alonso directed an 18-play drive that ended when Alonso (61 yards on 11 carries) danced into the end zone from 20 yards out.
Alonso had an interception that he returned 30 yards, and Cordova paced the Vikings with six tackles.
Midget Green 34 North Oxnard 26 (OT)
It took overtime before the Burbank Vikings Midget Green finally outlasted North Oxnard Red, 34-26, on Saturday.
The Vikings (5-0) had the ball first and began the extra session at the 10-yard line. Jime De Young blasted his way up the middle and scored while Tobi Baklayan added the extra point. Center Larry Franco, Anthony Spearman, Tadashi Butler and guard Robert Maliwanag all helped the surge.
Now it was North Oxnard Red’s turn, but it would end when cornerback Dennis Flowers intercepted a pass at the three-yard line on third down.
The scoring barrage began when Butler blocked a punt and the Vikings taking control at the two-yard line.
Baklayan found an opening in the middle and scored, and Baklayan’s two-point pass to Niko Candido made it 8-0.
Baklayan then picked off a pass and returned the ball 17 yards to the North Oxnard Red 37-yard line where the Vikings set up shop.
Six plays later Baklayan scored on a bootleg with assistance from Maliwanag who delivered a crushing block.
The Vikings made it 20-0 later in the second quarter when Baklayan located the end zone on a 30-yard sweep around left end.
North Oxnard Red’s drive stalled at the Vikings’ 27-yard line, and quarterback Bryce Whitaker led an 11-play, 73-yard march that De Young capped off with a three-yard burst off tackle that made it 26-0. De Young collected terrific blocks from running back Mason Cotton and Spearman.
Pee Wee Black 40 Moorpark 12
A steamroller named the Burbank Vikings Pee Wee Black continued to crush everything in the way including the Moorpark Saints, 40-12.
The Vikings (5-0) scored 22 points in the opening half, and slowed down somewhat tallying only 18 points in the second half.
A.J. Vargas started the ball rolling with a 25-yard dash that came after Dahnte Russell’s 17-yard pass to Jonas Baklayan for a 6-0 lead. When Donovan Castellanos added the two-point conversion the Vikings moved ahead 8-0.
Russell, who passed for 87 yards, picked off the Saints’ quarterback early in the second quarter and brought the football back 45 yards for a touchdown.
Joe Kazarian then punched it in from a yard out and the drive also saw key runs from Russell (93 yards rushing) and Baklayan (74 rushing yards and 87 receiving yards).
The undefeated Vikings pulled in front 34-6 after three quarters and added a 53-yard scoring run from Baklayan, while Russell and Vargas (78 yards on seven carries) also found the end zone.
The Moorpark Saints were able to garner 100 total net yards as Anthony Diaz, Jake Rosen, Anthony Torabyan, Vargas and Kazarian all tackled well.
Next week the Vikings Pee Wee Black have a bye, but will be in action the following Saturday in a game against the Canyon Outlaws Green at Canyon High beginning at 10:15 a.m.
