Four Burbank Vikings teams had shutouts on Saturday, led by the Midget Green who are now 7-0 on the season.

Canyon Gold 28  Senior Gold 6

Due to some costly turnovers, Senior Gold lost 28-6 to Canyon Gold at Canyon High School. However, the loss was much closer than the final score indicated as the Vikings controlled much of the tempo in the first half and were only down by two points at halftime.

In the second half, the Vikings turned the ball over three times inside Canyon’s 30 yard line. Despite a strong defensive showing, led by first-year player Jonathan Lopez, the turnovers were too much for the Vikings to overcome.

Chris Seidler, John Solares and Tommy Sanchez carried the offense with a combined 176 total rushing yards. Seidler was responsible for the only touchdown. Back-up quarterback Ben Chavez was six of eight passing for 82 yards.

With the loss, Senior Gold falls to 4-3 and will face Santa Clarita at Valencia High School next Saturday in the final game of the regular season.

Midget Green 40  Santa Clarita 0

Taking nothing for granted, Midget Green rolled over another opponent with dreams of a perfect season and a conference championship well within reach. A 40-0 victory over Santa Clarita at Burbank High on Saturday improved their record to 7-0 with one game left in the regular season.

True to form, Midget Green scored on their first possession of the game as Loyal Terry bulldozed his way to the end zone with a 12-yard touchdown run. After recovering an onside kick, the Vikings quickly scored again as Dante Coxsom had a dazzling 50-yard touchdown dash.

Sebastian Leal was next to score with a 41-yard touchdown run on the first offensive play of the second quarter. He dragged three defenders across the goal line and the Vikings took a 20-0 lead. Coxsom soon added his second TD of the game with a 10-yard run to close out the half.

The scoreboard got a chance to rest in the third quarter but Coxsom lit it up again in the fourth with a 64-yard touchdown run, his third of the game. In the final minutes, quarterback Issac Cordova scored on a short four-yard option run.

The defense, led by DJ Hubbell, Trystan Daggs, Jake Moore, Leal and Cordova, pitched their second straight shutout and third overall this season. The defense has held its opponents to an average of less than six points per game.

Midget Green closes out the regular season against Santa Clarita on Saturday at Burbank High at 10:15 a.m. A victory will clinch an undefeated season for the Vikings and earn a second straight conference championship.

North Oxnard Black 35  Pee Wee 0

Pee Wee (3-5) had their hands full with undefeated North Oxnard Black on Saturday but they battled until the final whistle in a 35-0 loss at Burbank High.

On defense, Aidan Cox, Jacob Hurtado and Ian Gandara accounted for 90% percent of the team’s tackles. Ava Gandara, the only girl in the entire Vikings’ program, rushed nine yards for a first down, returned a kick-off 25 yards and had a devastating open field tackle to stop a drive on 4th and 3.

Pee Wee has a bye next week.
