Midget Green 28  Calabasas Black 0

In the opening game of the day, Midget Green improved their record to 2-0 with an impressive shutout victory over Calabasas Black at Burbank High School.

Sabastian Leal got the Vikings on the board late in the first quarter with a determined 43-yard touchdown run that included several missed tackles. Dante Coxsom rushed for the two-point conversion.

Coxsom, in the midst of a career day, returned a punt 67 yards in the second quarter for a touchdown and the Vikings took a 14-0 lead into halftime.

On the Vikings first possession of the second half, Coxsom broke to the outside and outran the defense for a 65-yard touchdown run. This time, Leal ran for the two-point conversion. Calabasas, slow to learn who to avoid, punted to Coxsom a few series later and watched as he ran untouched to his third touchdown of the day.

Despite Coxsom’s offensive display, the Vikings defense was solid all game as lineman Manny Pimentel and linebackers Jake Moore, Max Cotton and Loyal Terry dominated Calabasas’ running game. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings defense stopped Calabasas six times inside their own 10-yard line to preserve the shutout.

Bantam White 12  Newbury Park Black 8

In a brilliant defensive effort, Bantam White evened their record at 1-1 with a nail-biting 12-8 victory over Newbury Park Black at Newbury Park High School. Kodiak Hernandez, Paul Vargas, Hunter Tvuanga and Atticus Coots made notable defensive plays to hold the opponent to just one touchdown. In the defensive play of the game, Devon Householder and Jordan White made a game saving tackle to preserve the victory.

White, playing on both sides of the ball, ran for two touchdowns in the first half. Fullback Joshua Guzman and running back Nicholas Schlander also added to the ground game with significant gains.

Senior Green 52  Oxnard 0

It didn’t take long for Senior Green (2-0) to establish their dominance in a 52-0 blowout victory over Oxnard at Burbank High School. On the first play of the game, Khalid Taylor set the tone for the rest of the day with a 60-yard touchdown on a sweep to the left. Jake Kelley ran for the two-point conversion.

Brandon Beardt followed with a six-yard touchdown run and QB Guy Gibbs threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Taylor and a 54-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Tucker. The Vikings took a 30-0 lead into halftime.

The second half featured more Vikings highlights as Beardt added another touchdown with a five-yard run up the middle. Kelley was next to score with a six-yard touchdown run. He added a 13-yard touchdown run later in the game.

Defensively, the Vikings were led by explosive middle linebacker Andy Reyes who seemingly was everywhere making one tackle after the next. Forrest Fajardo also had an interception in the fourth quarter and returned it for 25 yards.

In two games, Senior Green has outscored their opponents 98-14.
