Junior Green 50 Canyon 0
Reaching the half-century mark in points is mighty impressive, and that’s what the Burbank Vikings Junior Green did against Canyon Green on Saturday. Junior Green is now 7-0.
Using a potent ground attack that churned out 176 yards, the Junior Green laid down a 50-0 pasting and the scoring became an avalanche.
It started when running back Kade Lewis (40 yards on five carries) took a pitch from quarterback Isaac Cordova who found pay dirt after a 29-yard run. Cordova’s two-point conversion made it 8-0.
After two splendid runs by tailback Chandler Auguste, Cordova hit wide receiver Michael Sorokin with an 11-yard toss. Lewis added the two-point attempt for a 16-0 lead.
The Vikings’ lead swelled to 22-0 after Auguste picked off Canyon’s field general and brought the ball back nine yards. Auguste’s two-pointer made it 24-0.
Running back Maximus Mota took an inside handoff and rambled 24 yards that made it 30-0, and when tailback Max Cotton (38 yards on two rushes) ran 34 yards it became 36-0.
Running back Mike Lopez’s 34-yard blast up the middle pushed the Vikings’ advantage to 42-0, and a well-timed tip-drill between linebacker Cordova and safety Lopez saw the latter score the game’s final touchdown. Diego Santillan converted the two-pointer.
Canyon was held to minus 24 total net yards, and linebacker/defensive end Jake Moore had eight tackles including four solo.
Bantam White 34 Oxnard 16
Meanwhile defense played a huge role in the Burbank Vikings Bantam White’s 34-16 triumph over the Oxnard Panthers.
On the Vikings’ opening series the drive stalled at the Oxnard four-yard line, but the Panthers gave the ball back when defensive tackle Paden White forced a fumble which defensive back Jordan White carried into the end zone for a 6-0 lead.
The Panthers scored a touchdown and two-point conversion that gave them an 8-6 lead, however the Vikings (4-2) put together a drive in which quarterback Jordan White scored behind blocks from center Isaiah Martinez and tackle Frankie Cervantes for a 12-8 halftime edge.
Oxnard advanced to the Vikings’ two-yard line before the intermission, only to see linebacker Mario Rodriguez figure in key tackles that prevented the Panthers from scoring.
Fullback Maurice Johnson scored in the third quarter, while running back Nick Schlander added a 20-yard burst and running back Lorenzo Leal had a 15-yarder on the march.
Jordan White intercepted Oxnard’s signal-caller, and three plays later Jordan White found Johnson with a 30-yard hitch pass that made it 26-8.
Oxnard trimmed the lead to 26-16 with a touchdown and a two-pointer, but the Vikings countered with a touchdown of their own after offensive linemen Atticus Coots, Shant Hovsepian and Josh Lopez opened a hole for Johnson who tallied his third touchdown.
The Panthers again marched into Vikings’ territory, but linebackers Rudy Perez and Rodriguez along with Paden White stopped the drive.
Bantam Black 26 Newbury Park 6
In a contest played October 5, the Burbank Vikings Bantam Black scored on their opening series and never looked back as they downed the Newbury Park Steelers, 26-6.
The scoring parade began when quarterback Russell Diep (55 yards on six rushes) scrambled into the end zone from 17 yards out that made it 6-0.
On the kickoff Hunter Rice (five tackles) and Tyler Cantrell (two tackles) forced a fumble which Cantrell recovered. This led to Jarren Flowers scoring on a 35-yard sprint as the Vikings (2-3) settled into a 12-0 lead.
Newbury Park cut the Vikings’ lead in half with a touchdown in the second quarter, but that was the extent of its scoring.
Jack Sapyta, Nicolas Navarro and Kuba Raymond all chipped in with four tackles for a defense that entered the contest having allowed 32 points. Shawn Wilson (40 yards on 10 carries) led the team with six tackles and two sacks.
The Steelers came close to scoring a second touchdown just before the half, but the Vikings held off Newbury Park with a goal-line stand that preserved a 12-6 lead.
Flowers (89 yards on 15 rushes) scored to make it 18-6 in the third quarter, and Diep (two of four pass attempts for 48 yards) scored on a 15-yard keeper out of the shotgun formation that made it 24-6. Diep’s two-point pass to Marcus Martin gave the Vikings a 20-point lead.
