The senior finished third in the 150-pound weight class in the CIF Masters Meet Saturday at Sonora High in La Habra to earn an automatic qualifying berth.

The state finals will be held next weekend at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield.

The qualification for state comes on the heels of in winning a CIF Southern Section title the previous week.

“This accomplishment is merely the cherry on top of a superb career led by his steadfast dedication to the sport, and the Burbank wrestling program at large,” said coach Jonathon O’Brien, who founded the program three years ago.

Burbank’s Albert Airapetian was also a master’s meet qualifier, but failed to advance to Bakersfield.

Airapetian, who competes at 215, suffered a sprained ankle in the CIF Finals, where he finished fifth to earn a spot in the Masters Meet.

In the CIF Finals, Airapetian won his 29th match to set a new school record for victories in a single season, topping the previous mark that was held by Richard Kalajyan.
