Burger Review: Burbank Bar & Grille

After seeing the last Friday Flashback here on myBurbank about the building at Olive and San Fernando Blvd., I remembered that the Burbank Bar & Grille are currently residing there and has been there for a while now.

Burbank Bar grille 1When we first tried to pull up we found the first and probably the largest problem – no parking. After a couple trips around the block we were lucky enough to find a place in the parking lot at City Hall – lucky us. We had a walk ahead of us.

Once there you had a choice between stairs and an elevator – I took the elevator of course.

Once inside, we were immediately greeted by the bartender who also served as or waitress. Looking around the inside was very warm and well decorated and looked like a great place to be except for one problem – we wee the only ones there eating, except for a party outside on their deck. Hard to go to a restaurant that does not have convenient parking.

Our waitress / bartender was extremely friendly and made you feel welcome. I ordered the BBG Angus Burger (the only burger on the menu). She asked how I would like it cooked and of course I said medium rare and the fries well done.  She took both of our orders without writing anything down which always scares me a little. I have had my burger well done and my fries medium rare in the past!.

Burbank bar grille3When the food came I was very happy to see that everything was exactly how we ordered it. The burger came open face on a plate and ketchup and mustard were supplied on the table.  Once again a nice fresh pickle spear was served although I wish there was some pickles with the garnish to put ON the burger.

I put some ketchup and mustard on the bun to help with the overall flavor. The bun was not toasted very well and the patty, which is advertise as an Angus Beef, was set right on top of the bottom bun which was already starting to collect the juices. The cheddar cheese was melted correctly and the burger, once put together, looked good.

As soon as I picked up the burger I could tell we were in for a bottom bun tragedy. It was already starting to get soggy. I knew I had to act fast and took my first bite.  The burger was cooked medium rare and tasted like a good slab of Angus Beef. There was not much seasoning to it though, so it tasted like an average burger instead of something unique.

Burbank bar grille2By the time I was two thirds done the bottom bun had given up the ghost and self-destructed, so it then became a mess in my hands. I soldiered on through and finished it. The things you have to do for a review sometimes!

Overall, I thought the burger was good, it just was not special. While the patty was fresh and it had cheddar cheese, I have to listen to those of you that have written in to say I am too nice sometimes and have given it a second level classification.

For $9.95, it is a decent price, it just is not worth the parking hassles and a defective bun to want to go back just for the burger.

Side Notes: Finally, found someone who can get fries well done when they are requested. Yes, they were shoestring fries so it can’t be that hard but they were pretty good – could have used some seasoning salt, however.
