The outstanding overall play by the Burroughs High boys’ basketball team continued on the road Tuesday in a CIF Southern Section Division I-A quarterfinal contest against Vista Murrieta.

The Indians (22-7) prevailed 68-56 and now will face top-seeded Santa Monica in the semifinals at home with a 7 p.m. tipoff.

“We had a really good start [7-1], and we were ahead 18-10 after the first quarter,” Burroughs coach Adam Hochberg said. “We had a really good scouting report on them. We felt really comfortable in what we were going to do.”

This is the first time the Indians have advanced to the semis since 1990 and seem to be peaking.

“We’re getting better as the year goes along,” Hochberg added on how well his club has played over the last one-third of the season.

Junior power forward Tristen Hull had 17 points with seven rebounds and three assists, and senior small forward Angelo Solis added 10 points, 12 caroms, three steals and two blocks for the Indians, who led 30-20 at the half and then pulled ahead 46-40 after three quarters.

The backcourt also added offensive support as senior point guard Ross Lee III had 13 points with three assists and two steals, senior point guard Eric Allen tossed in 12 points and canned seven of eight at the free-throw line and senior shooting guard Steven Hubbell chimed in with eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

In other playoff action, the Burbank High girls’ soccer team had a season to remember, but it was cut short of a Division IV quarterfinal match after losing to Mayfair on Tuesday, 3-1, in a second-round encounter.

The host Bulldogs trailed 1-0 at the half before allowing two goals in the second half.

Burbank (11-4-3) did score a goal on Dalia Farazdaghi’s kick on an assist from Kira Bochard.

The Bulldogs defeated Culver City 1-0 on Friday and advanced to the second round for the first time in six years.
