A season ago, the San Marino High girls’ golf team captured the Pacific League title and advanced to the CIF Southern Section postseason.
Arcadia was second, Crescenta Valley placed third and was followed by Burroughs, which didn’t make the playoffs.
This season the Indians are hoping to make the top-three and qualify for the playoffs, and so far, they’re off to a solid start after defeating host Golden Valley (Balboa) in a nonleague match on Monday by the score of 225-262.
Leading the way for the Indians, who return their entire team, was junior Raelinn Arnold, who shot a 41. She was followed by junior Ashley Phelps, who finished with a 43.
Phelps is coming off a season in which she placed 15th in the league tournament and was chosen on the All-Area team.
Senior Katy Kuoppala closed her day by shooting a 46, while junior Maddie Riggs capped her round with a 47.
Sophomore Annie Adachi carded a 48 for the Indians, while senior Samantha Mazo’s 56 was dropped from the overall team total.
