It is tough to predict what teams will be like until they tee off, so there was a lot of suspense Thursday afternoon in the first Pacific League boys’ golf match at DeBell Golf Club.

Arcadia, which has long been the top team in the league, didn’t disappoint by winning with 407 strokes. But Burroughs showed it is not far off by shooting 414.

Crescenta Valley was third with 435, Burbank fourth with 482 and Pasadena fifth with 552.

“I thought the greens were kind of fast,” Burroughs’ low medalist Jake Panikowski. “ I think we could have done better and I think we’ll be in contention.  If we’re going to win the league, this is the year to do it. We’re excited to see how the next few matches will be.”

Panikowski shot 83 on the par-71 course over 18 holes. Some flights did not play all 18 holes due to darkness. Trey Sanchez shot 85 and Aaron Cohen 89, also both over 18 holes.

Kodiak Hernandez shot 79 over 16 holes, Niko Coccio shot 83 over 17 holes and Ryan McGowan shot 84 over 15 holes.

Burbank was led by J.J. Nakao who shot 86. Hayden Chase shot 90. Kevin Kienlen shot 94. Nick Toczek shot 104, Devin Blazon 108 and Brian McCarthy 109.

The teams will meet again next week at Harding Golf Course at Griffith Park.
