The sounds of jazz washed over John Burroughs High School on Thursday, April 5 as the JBHS Instrumental Music Association presented its first-ever Jazzapoloosa.

The evening featured the JBHS Jazz Ensemble and local band Attic Empire, which culminated with a performance by Tim Gill and the Tim Gill All-Stars.

The renowned band is not your grandfather’s “big band.”  Their irresistible combination of swinging, vintage groove with hip, and youthful energy puts a 21st century spin on the iconic crooner images of days long gone. Renowned for their slam-bang mashup of old-school groove and grit with new-school flair, they are a band that covers everything from Cole Porter to Ray Charles, to The Beatles.  Tim Gill & Tim Gill All-Stars, are a frequent headliner at venues around the Southland, and enjoy widespread air play on such prominent radio stations as KJAZZ 88.1 FM.

A Downbeat award-winning, Los Angeles-based trumpeter, vocalist and composer, Gill’s unique style of writing and playing have been featured with such talented artists as Wayne Bergeron, Nicholas Payton, Brandford Marsalis, Bobby Shew, Gilbert Castellanos and Clark Terry.
