Burroughs Stunt Comes Up Short Against Moorpark

Bears host tough team from Ventura County.

Finding opponents is not easy for Burroughs High, which is one of just two Pacific League schools that have Stunt teams.

Thursday evening the Bears, who are members of the Almont League, faced visiting Moorpark in a nonleague contest.

The Musketeers got out to an early lead and would not be caught, winning 26-18.

“The team did great today. This is one of our higher scoring games against a really competitive team,” said Burroughs coach Alyssa Magoon, who is in her third year with the program. “Moorpark has been competing for a few years more than us. It was great to see us competitive. We gave it our all. My athletes were giving it their best and it was really awesome to see.”

In the first quarter, Moorpark opened the match by earning two points performing routine two. Burroughs received one point.
Burroughs did not have a team for routine five, but Moorpark was unable to capitalize, failing to score.

Burroughs earned a point for its performance in routine three. Moorpark finished off the first period by scoring a point performing routine four.

Moorpark scored points and Burroughs added one in performing routine three to start the second quarter.
The visiting Musketeers added a point for their performance in routine four.

Moorpark outscored Burroughs 2-1 in performing routine two. Both teams each earned a point performing routine one to end of the first half.

Trailing 9-5 at the intermission, Burroughs was unable to close the gap to start the third period as Moorpark earned a point on routine four.

Both teams earned a point routine one. Moorpark took a 12-6 lead after earning a point on routine two. Burroughs came back with two points on routine three to cut the deficit to 13-8 after three periods.

In the fourth period, Moorpark came out and swept routine four by earning a point for the partner stunts, jumps and tumbling and pyramids and tosses.

Moorpark earned two points in partner stunts performing routine one. Both teams each earned a point for jumps and tumbling and pyramids and tosses.

Burroughs received two points performing routine two in jumps and tumbling and also received two points in routine three for pyramids and tosses.
