Three-time defending league champion Burroughs defeated Burbank 25-15, 25-14, 25-15 yesterday at Burbank High. JBHS is currently ranked No. 5 in CIF Division II.
Daniel Jacobs had eight kills while Nick Van Loo and Daniel Marbach each had five kills for the Indians. Danny Casillas had 10 digs and BJ Lagmay had 16 assists as Burroughs improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in Pacific League play.
“Today was a solid match for our team. We came out focused and prepared,” Burroughs Coach Joel Brinton said. “We still have a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be but today was a step in the right direction.”
Burbank fell to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in league.
“Today Burroughs showed why they are the defending league champion, and the favorite to repeat again this year. We did not show up today,” Burbank Coach Patrick McMenamin said. “Our unforced errors prevented us from establishing any kind of offensive rhythm. Against strong teams, there’s less room for error. We need to play more aggressive the next time we face off.”
