Phony representatives of the Burbank Water & Power have been at it again. On Wednesday, November 6, the manager of Philly’s Best restaurant took a call from a male individual who said that the business’ utilities would be shut off unless a bill for close to $1000 was paid by 5:00 p.m. that day. The manager followed the caller’s instructions, went to CVS and purchased a “Money Pak” card for the amount indicated. The manager then called the individual back at a number from outside the United States and conveyed the “Money Pak” card numbers.

The next day, November 7, the owner of Philly’s Best wondered why $1000 was missing from the books. The scam was discovered and reported to Burbank Police, according to Sergeant Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.
